A latte begins with espresso brown, compact and nearly opaque at the bottom of the cup. Coffee brown and tan appear as the first milk folds through it, softening both the darkness and the red-brown undertone.
Beige marks the familiar mixed drink. Cream and milk-white belong to the microfoam above it, where the liquid catches more light and the original espresso is only faintly visible.
