Tobacco color is a record of curing. The leaf loses green as it dries, and lighter grades can finish lemon yellow or gold before warmer orange and brown tones appear.

Yellowish-brown holds the middle of the range. Deeper cured brown and a dark wrapper finish show how much weight the same leaf family can gain through variety, position, and method.
